BIO

Born in Winnipeg Canada, Wayne Littlejohn earned his BFA (Honours) at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg Canada. He continued his education by traveling through Asia, then moving to Nevada in 1994 to participate in the MFA program at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Wayne is a professor in the Fine Arts Department at the College of Southern Nevada. He has exhibited works in Austria, Canada, Japan, Sweden, and across the USA.

Wayne’s work investigates the interaction of light, space, material and mass. His personal work explores elements of sculptural abstraction; yet the artist also has collaborated with designers, fabricators and industrial engineers to create and install large-scale representational works based on European prototypes.

Wayne has participated in panel discussions, interviews and served on award granting committees. He has presented lectures in cooperation with major academic institutions such as the Guggenheim and Smithsonian museums. His work inhabits major private and corporate collections, as well as permanent institutional collections such as the Las Vegas Art Museum and the UNLV Donna Beam Gallery. In 2001, Wayne received one of five Nevada Arts Council fellowships for outstanding work in the field of visual art. To celebrate the dedication of “Spin Baby” January 16, 2020 was officially proclaimed Wayne Littlejohn Day in Clark County, Nevada.

The “Spin Baby” sculpture graces the confluence of three streets named for Rat Pack members: Sammy Davis, Jr. Drive; Dean Martin Drive; and Frank Sinatra Drive.

The “Atomic Tumbleweed” sculpture, perched on the southwest corner of 3rd St and Gass, welcomes visitors to the Third St Linear Park in downtown Las Vegas.
